AlUla Wonder of Arabia

A new wind is blowing on Saudi Arabia, which wants to make AlUla the showcase of its desire to open up to the world. The country, totally closed to tourists until recently, still suffers from a very bad reputation, with human rights violations, the conditions of women, or its ambiguous international policy. The AlUla site, also called the other Petra, is at the heart of the new ambitions of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), entitled « vision 2030 ». Preparing for the post-oil era is today's major challenge and the tourism card is one of the way with the ambition of reaching 10% of GDP by 2030. Nestled in a valley 300 km north of Medina on the ancient pilgrimage route between Damascus and Mecca, the caravan city of the oasis of AlUla was a refreshing stopover for pilgrims and merchants in the time of the Nabataean kingdom. (from the 4th century BC to the 1st century). Spread over 25,000 km2, AlUla is home to some of the best preserved Nabataean tombs on the site of Hegra, access to which was forbidden for several hundred years. Add to these architectural marvels classified as World Heritage by Unesco breathtaking desert and canyon landscapes, hotels at the forefront of ecology, and local guides trained abroad, AlUla has everything to become the flagship destination of the Arabia of tomorrow.
